Here is a time-lapse video of our game we did for Toronto Global Game Jam which is a game developing event where people gather to create a game within 48 hours!
Boom Bears was created in Unity3D and the art was done in Adobe Flash CS5.5. It is a 4 player game where the objective is to be the last bear standing.
Bombs are delivered through animals (birds, squirrels, rabbits and moles) and destroy the terrain.
Players can pick up and throw them in any direction but they do not harm the player, just push them around which you can use to your advantage.
You can double jump and wall climb or launch yourself high into the air with a well place bomb(s).
Art duration: 20.71 hours
Programming duration: 12.59 hours
Total (combined): 33.30 hours
Features Still to Add:
-players will be able to throw bombs back up when they are out (in water)
-3 more animals (rabbit, squirrel and mole)
Challenge we faced:
Michael started the event programming a crazy terrain subtraction algorithm that would remove chunks of terrain and re-triangulate it for a more customizable terrain destruction. He worked on this until Saturday at 9pm (Deadline was Sunday 5pm) and he got close, but he made the wise decision to hold that plan off otherwise we may not have a finished product.
We will be offering a method for download/player whenever we figure out the best distribution method as its unlikely somoene has 4 players connected to 1 PC
